Self Denial Appeal

2017

Love changes lives

  • About

William Booth always understood that God's love was to be offered to others; that people in real despair need real hope. And real hope is released through love-filled, practical action. In 1886, Booth called Salvationists to give sacrificially, to deny themselves so that they could offer God's love to a hurting world. So as Salvationists we give generously to the Self Denial Appeal, knowing that our sacrificial giving changes the world because love changes lives.

With your generous support, the Self Denial Appeal 2016 raised more than $3.5 million in Australia alone.

  • We're inviting you to see how love is changing lives around the world through The Salvation Army's Self Denial Appeal. The series shows how funds are used to support projects and the mission of The Salvation Army in developing communities around the world. We will see real stories of our programs are changing lives in the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Kenya and Mexico. The series launches online and in Salvation Army Corps 26 February 2017.

Funds raised from the Self Denial Appeal will go towards people in need in more than 100 countries.

  • MEET CRAIG McKENZIE

As the son of Salvation Army officers (Commissioners Garth and Mel McKenzie), Craig was involved with church music from a young age. This sparked a lifelong passion.

Jesus is at the core of who Craig is, and this is reflected in his songwriting. Being involved with various bands and studying at the Excel School of Performing Arts in Auckland, New Zealand, he went on to release his solo debut album Surrender.

Craig, who produces music with a UK production company, serves in the music team at The Salvation Army's Johnsonville Corps in Wellington, New Zealand, and has just finished recording his follow-up album.

Love Changes Lives

When you call I will follow you
I give you my heart I give you my everything
You came and brought light to this world lost in darkness
You laid down your life out of love for me

And I will give my all to you
And I will live my life for my king
He’s Jesus my Saviour
May your name be glorified
Your love changes lives

You brought the dead to life
You caused the blind to see open my eyes
Show me your heart for the nations
In a world without hope
You bring love and forgiveness
You laid down your life that we might be set free

And I will give my all to you
And I will live my life for my king
He’s Jesus my Saviour
May your name be glorified
Your love changes lives

Praise your name for you have set me free
You’ve broken all my chains
And I will follow you for all of my days
I will serve my king ruler of everything
We give you the glory Jesus you saved us
And healed us with your love
Your unfailing love
Jesus my savior oh your sacrifice wherever you call me I will go

And I will give my all for you
And I will live my life for my king
It’s Jesus victorious Jesus
May your name be glorified
Your love changed my life
